Care

Your handcrafted silver jewelry will look it's best for years to come if you avoid exposing it to hairspray, perfume, lotion, oils, greasy fingers, etc. – follow the old saying – “last on, first off”.  Avoid wearing it when exercising, swimming, bathing.  When you are not wearing it, store it in a jewelry box or small ziplock bag.

 

For general cleaning to remove surface dirt and oil, soak your piece in soapy warm water for about 20 minutes then gently scrub using a soft toothbrush, rinse, and dry thoroughly.

 

For badly tarnished shiny oxidized surfaces, very gently rub your piece in the palms of your hands with a gritty slightly soupy mix of baking soda, water and dishwashing liquid (I like Dawn) and dry thoroughly.  Follow with a polishing cloth.

 

For badly tarnished brushed oxidiized surfaces only - wipe first with a small square of either very fine 0000 steel wool or a clean small piece of 3M scotchbrite scouring pad - very gently! - followed by the baking soda, water and dishwashing liquid mix. Do not use a polishing cloth.

 

To care for high polished surfaces that do not include oxidized patina finishing, use a paste silver polish (I like Weiman or Hagerty) and dry thoroughly.  If very darkly tarnished, wipe first with a tarnish remover such as Tarnex, followed by paste silver polish.  You may also use a jewelry polishing cloth.
